Nacreous clouds, also known as mother-of-pearl clouds, are a rare event appearing when temperatures in the stratosphere fall below &endash;175°F. This beautiful photo shows the characteristic irridescent colors created by diffraction and interference from the various shapes of ice crystals in the atmosphere.

Photo is drymounted on artist foam board. Acid-free double matting consists of a white inner matte and a white outer matte.
